Formation Process of Lamella Structures by Deformation in an Fe-Mn-Si-Cr-Ni Shape Memory Alloy

چکیده
For Fe-Mn-Si-Cr-Ni shape memory alloys, it was previously found by HREM study that the formation of the nanometric lamella structures consisting of f.c.c. and h.c.p. phase is very important to exhibit good shape memory effect. In the present work, the formation process of such lamella structures has been studied in detail. The results are as follows. The transformation is initiated by random formation of extremely thin martensite plates with 1-2 nm width and then these plates are clustered and some of them coalesce to form thicker martensite plates with increasing deformation. The clustered regions are 400-600 nm wide and will correspond to the above mentioned lamella structures. These clustered regions are considered also to correspond to the thinnest martensite plate observable with optical microscope. In the optical microscopic scale, the thin martenite plates with the smallest width are formed rather uniformly in an austenite grain, and with further increasing deformation, they are clustered and coalesce into thicker plates with 3-8 pm width.

It is well known that the Fe based alloys can exhibit shape memory effect due to the y to E martensitic transformation. The effect may not be as striking as observed in the NiTi alloy but it might become attractive fkom the practical point of view. In this work, two compositions of Fe-Cr-Ni-Mn-Si(-Co) stainless steel based shape memory alloy, prepared by the VIM technique, will be presented. Th...
متن کاملThe Effect of Mn-Depleted Surface Layer on the Corrosion Resistance of Shape Memory Fe-Mn-Si-Cr Alloys
In this work, we have examined Fe-Mn-Si-Cr alloys possessing a good shape memory effect due to a high Mn content (28 wt pct). The addition of Cr (5 wt pct) was made in order to give fairly good corrosion resistance to the alloy. But we have verified that even in moderately corrosive environments, the presence of chromium does not bear any passivation. On the other hand, we have found that the a...

Magnetic shape memory properties of Ni-Mn-Ga single crystals were characterized by measurement of stress-induced martensite reorientation under constant magnetic fields. Also magnetic field-induced strain as a function of the applied magnetic field under different constant compressive stress levels has been investigated. All the experiments were performed at room temperature in which the sample...
متن کاملEffect of Amount of Deformation on the Martensitic Transformation and Shape Memory Effect in Fe-Mn-Si based Shape Memory Steel
The effect of amount of deformation on the martensitic transformation and shape memory effect in a Fe-16Mn-5Si-9Cr-4Ni alloy is studied. It is found that both 6and a'martensite are induced by deformation. With increasing amount of deformation, y+~-nx' transformation is greatly enhanced. the highest shape memory strain 3 3% is reached when the amount of deformation is about 5%.
